Over the years, Wanda has had several hobbies. Not only does she enjoy walking, which she started doing daily at Rocky Hollow Athletic Center in 1999, but she participates in many other activities. For example, she spends a great deal of time line dancing, swimming, aerobics, bicycling, traveling and various other pastimes. As Wanda started to experience bilateral knee pain, her active lifestyle became a challenge.
After trying many different options to deal with the pain, including wraps, knee braces, injections and various medications, Wanda was eventually diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knees. In July 2015, she decided that she was done experiencing the pain in her knees. At this time, she made appointments to have both of her knees replaced. The surgery on her left knee was performed on August 3, 2015 and the Right knee was completed on September 15, 2015 by Dr. Christian Christensen.
Within 48 hours of each surgery, Wanda began physical therapy at Total Rehab Center. She received therapy two times per week and was able to go from using a walker to a cane in about one week. By the second week, she was able to walk on her own without an assisted device. Wanda says that “because of surgery and therapy, I have been able to recover more quickly and get back the life I was missing because of knee pain.”
Although the healing process of having both knees replaced in ongoing, being less than 3 months out of 2 total knee replacements, she is well on her way to returning to the active lifestyle she has lived for 73 years.
